If you’re thinking of giving Electronic Cigarettes a try, there are some basics you need to know before starting the vaping experience. You need to know the terminology and what the various parts of Electronic Cigarettes are. A person new to E-cigs may find the choices available dizzying, but all E-cigs are basically comprised of only three main parts. Knowing them and what they do is the key to getting started.

Battery – The battery is simply the power supply of an E-cig. They come in various shapes and sizes with different voltage and amperage ratings. Most E-cigs will come in short, standard and long versions. Generally, the longer the battery is the more vapor it produces for a longer period of time. Batteries also come in automatic and manual versions. Manual versions will have a small button on them that you press to activate and produce vapor.

Automatic batteries are activated whenever you start to inhale. One is not necessarily better than the other; it’s mostly a personal preference. Unless you are buying a disposable E-cig, batteries can be recharged.

Atomizer – This allows the E-liquid to be converted to vapor and is probably the most important part of an E-cig. Its purpose is to draw in the E-liquid with a wicking material and then heat it to the point where it becomes a vapor that simulates the smoke of a real cigarette. While batteries can be continually recharged, atomizers will eventually burn out and must be replaced.

Cartomizer/Clearomizer – A cartomizer is a combination of the words cartridge and atomizer. A cartomizer is a unit that consists of a cartridge that holds a pre-filled amount of E-liquid and a built-in atomizer. They are disposable and have a limited period of operation before they must be replaced. A clearomizer consists of a clear tank, which can be refilled multiple times with E-liquid, and the atomizer.

Since it doesn’t contain a pre-filled amount of E-liquid that will eventually be used up, they last much longer than a cartomizer. Their length of effective use is only limited by how long the built-in atomizer lasts before it burns out or when the wicking no longer effectively draws in the E-liquid.

A site that offers a large selection of batteries, atomizers, E-liquids and accessories is thevaporium.com. You can buy everything from basic starter kits to the most advanced vaping systems that are out there right now.
