A bucket elevator is ideal for moving materials up to a processor, packaging machine or onto a conveyor from a lower level. While not the most expensive item on any production line, choosing the right bucket elevator is essential to be able to maintain and efficient and effective line that is operating to the desired capacity.

Before making a purchase, take the time to look around at the different options in models, designs, and features. It is also a good time to consider the manufacturer’s experience in the food production industry and the expertise they bring to their equipment design and features.

Capacity

The best designs in these elevators are built to last and built to have the capacity to carry the weight and the volume needed with each bucket. Each of the different bucket elevator models will be rated for a specific capacity. Depending on the speed of the line and the type of material that will need to be lifted, the buckets may have the ability to lift up to 600 liters per minute.

Different sizes of buckets will impact the capacity of the life elevator. Keep in mind that in most companies production will grow over time, which is an essential consideration when choosing any equipment.

Construction

Verify the manufacturer is using stainless steel that is food grade material as well as specific sanitary construction processes. This ensures that all elements of the bucket elevator are able to safely handle food material. Everything from the surfaces of the buckets to the type of welds used in manufacturing will all be within these regulations.

In addition to these basics, take a close look at how easy or how complicated it will be to clean and maintain the equipment. As it is made of stainless steel it will have full washdown capabilities, but is it also designed to allow for easy access to cleaning all of the components, including the ability to quickly remove buckets if required.
