Retail stores of any type from clothing boutiques to hardware stores all need to have a way to effectively display their merchandise. Getting creative with fixtures can add to the unique look of the store and also provide customized display options for a wide range of different types of items.

While it is possible to purchase the prefabricated fixtures, stands and rack systems, it is also easy to make your own using aluminum square tubing and specially designed connectors. By creating unique displays, it is also possible to give a retail space a fresh, new look perfectly matching the style and type of items in the store.

Fixture Height

When using aluminum square tubing, there is no limit on fixture height either for free-standing hanging fixtures or storage racks and shelving units. Aluminum is both lightweight and very strong, but stability will still be a factor that will need to be considered.

For hanging clothing on fixtures, use a height that is slightly below typical chest height for an adult. This makes it easy for the customer to see the merchandise on the hangers and to move through the selection.

For shelving units that are movable or for fixed racks on a wall, using aluminum square tubing provides a stylish look that is durable and can hold the weight. Keep these types of displays at or below eye level for easy access for customers. For collection displays the same is true; if they are too high smaller objects will not be clearly visible and it will make it difficult for customers to select the products they want.

Stability

Using Z-clips or panel clips is a simple way to attach fixtures, particularly storage racks or shelving units to a wall. They are very discrete and can be placed out of sight.

For the free-standing displays, a wide base and cross braces as necessary will provide all the stability required. With aluminum tubing, this is a simple addition and one that is ideal for both carpeted floors as well as hard flooring options.
