It is possible for students from India to complete an MBBS in the USA. However, this is not easy. The costs and other factors may create significant obstacles to this academic path to becoming a doctor.

Indian students, like students from any other country, are not given priority in medical colleges and universities in the United States. This is not all that different than students from the USA trying to attend an MBBS program in India. Most countries provide priority to their citizens within high-demand programs of study.

In addition to the priority given to citizens for these seats, there are several other challenges for Indian students in obtaining an MBBS in the USA.

Testing

Students interested in completing an MBBS in USA must first complete a Bachelor’s degree and pass the MCAT exam. This is very different from the NEET exam, including a wider range of subjects and exam test questions. Many students find the MCAT exam a challenge, limiting their ability to qualify.

Different Education System

Indian students do not have a lifetime of experience and understanding of the education system in medical colleges and universities. In the American educational system, there is less focus on rote memorization and facts and more on the process, problem-solving, and a more expansive educational experience.

Students in America choose between elective courses and core or required courses. Students from India are used to having their academics set out by the school. In addition, faculty in the USA is less focused on student accountability and more focused on providing a collaborative learning experience. This can create challenges for many students.
