After making the decision to purchase a lamp post for your home or business the next step is choosing the right lamp post globes. Choosing the right lamp post globe for your parking lot, business, or patio can be a crucial decision that can offer several benefits. There are several advantages to having proper lighting outside of your business, home, or parking lot. These include safety of customers and visitors, deterrent of burglars and other dangerous persons, and increased approachability and comfort of the home or business.

Types of Globes
There are several different types of materials that can be used on outdoor lamp posts. The three most common materials for construction include polycarbonate materials, acrylic, and polyethylene. Each of these materials has its own advantages and price point. Polycarbonate materials are heat-resistant, shatter-resistant, and durable. They are at the high end of the price range of the three most commonly used types of lamp post globes. Acrylic globes are in the middle of the price range of lamp post globes. They have the advantage of being durable, clear, and lighter in weight than other globe options. Acrylic globes are also more brilliant and resistant to weather changes, particularly hot and cold temperature changes. Polyethylene plastic globes offer the lowest price for lamp post globes. They are considered to be chemically resistant and very durable.

Choosing the Right Size
There are two factors that can affect the size of globe that you will need for your lamp post. These include the original lamp post that is purchased, and the effect you want from your bulb. Globe sizes can range anywhere from 6 inches to 24 inches in size. Some lamp posts will only be compatible with certain sizes of globe. Additionally, the size globe you choose effects how the light is displayed. Larger globes will disperse light for a wider, less bright area. Smaller globes concentrate the distributions of light to a smaller area, which allows the brightness to be increased.

Color or Tinting
When lamp post globes are created, the material is colored or tinted to create different effects on the lighting outside of your home or business. Some popular shades include white, smoke, clear, and bronze. Clear globes allow for the lightbulb shining through more clearly. However, it may be more difficult to concentrate the light in a certain area. White globes are designed to allow the lightbulb to shine through as well, however, they concentrate or disperse light better depending on the size of the globe. Bronze globes are designed for a yellower lighting. It also disperses light well. Finally, smoke bulbs are designed to cloud the effects of light. While it is often dimmer than a white or clear bulb, it can be dispersed into a greater area.
