Hitting delete is not enough when you are getting rid of old electronics from your business. The fact is crafty forensic computer miners can still find that hidden data. The only way to ensure that your data is still protected is to destroy the hard drive.

Destroying the Hard Drive

Destroying the hard drive on any system is not quite as simple as removing it and banging it up. There have been documented cases of data being recovered off, of hard drives that were burned. Protecting your business data has to be a top priority. There is a way to destroy data from a hard drive that will permanently erase it and make it safe to resell the equipment.

Two Ways

There are primarily two ways that will delete data forever:

  • Degaussing
  • Physical shredding

Degaussing is a process in which a powerful magnet is used to wipe a hard drive completely clean. It is the ONLY proven method for wiping a hard drive or storage device clean.

Physical Shredding

Another way that you can make sure that your data is protected is through shredding. In this process, the hard drive or storage device is physically shredded to ensure that it completely unusable and the data can never be retrieved.

Security is a Priority

Outdated electronic devices and equipment can pose a huge threat to your organization. Many times these devices wind up in a storage closet somewhere and just sit waiting to be plugged in again.
