While most people know about ice skating and the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, there is so much more that NYC has to offer. Here is a quick look at some of the fun winter activities in NYC you and your family can enjoy.

Winter Jazzfest

Winter Jazzfest has been bringing some of the top names and rising stars in the music industry to New York City since 2005. What began as a one-day, single-location event has grown into a week-long spectacle spanning over 10 stages and featuring over 700 performers. This is one of the best winter activities in NYC for the entire family to enjoy, especially after a quick skating session at Wollman Rink.

However, the festival encompasses far more than only performances. Conversations and talks on issues ranging from the jazz community to social justice, feminism, environmentalism, wellness, and mental health are also included in the program. All of the talk sessions are free and accessible to the public.

Chinese New Year

Everyone in New York City comes out in force to celebrate the Lunar New Year in February. The Lunar New Year is a Chinese event in which people honor their ancestors and their household and celestial deities. Consider pyrotechnics, lion dances, and an abundance of delectable cuisine.

The Firecracker Ceremony and the Chinese New Year Parade are both held in Manhattan’s Chinatown. The parade route follows Mott and Canal Streets, East Broadway to the Manhattan Bridge, and Forsythe and Eldridge Streets to Grand Street.
