If you have decided to have a security guard on your premises here are a few ideas to get them properly outfitted for efficiency and safety. You want to ensure they are safe as well as staff and/or customers who will be present should any issues occur.

Weapons

Depending on what your company does and what laws are in place in your state you want to ensure your security guard has a few weapons to protect themselves and others in the case of an emergency. At the least you want them to have pepper spray and a baton. Again, depending on laws and what your facility requires, some security guards should be wearing a hand gun.

Additional Tools

A security guard may have to detain a person who has broken the law while on your premises. You can provide them with zip ties or hand cuffs to keep the person under control until the police arrive. A cell phone and/or walkie talkie is also a must so they are able to communicate in case of emergency as well as to check in when on rounds.

Uniform

A uniform is necessary to help add a sense of warning to those who might want to commit a crime or enter your premises without permission. A uniform will help identify the security guard as well as provide a sense of professionalism. You can also consider providing a heated vest if they have to work in a warehouse or do rounds outside at night. Boots are also a must and steel toed footwear is advisable in areas with dangerous sharp items around. All security guards should carry a badge, ID and have a ID Badge Holder Lanyard in order to keep their badge visible to visitors so they know they are present.

Video Camera

Video cameras are compact and easy to carry and will come in handy to prove your case when a crime is being committed. Your security guard can use it to show police when they arrive as well as to present in court in hand with any video surveillance you might have available.

Providing these simple tools and supplies for your security guard will keep them safe and allow them to work as efficiently as possible.
