We’ve all seen those adventure motorcycle riding videos and thought to ourselves “wow, that’s so cool, I want to try that!” Everyone, to some extent or another, wants to be James Dean riding on his hot rod. However, there are of course safety regulations you must follow. You probably already know the basics, so those won’t be addressed. However, there are plenty of other safety tips and regulations you must follow that you may not know about. So, if you’re a beginning motorcycle enthusiast, here are the safety tips you may not be as aware of as you think.

Gloves and Goggles Are a Must

Everyone knows to wear a helmet when riding any type of bike or motorcycle, this is common knowledge. However, when riding a motorcycle, you need to protect your eyes and hands as well, especially if you’re wearing an open faced helmet. A motorcycle travels at speeds that rival most cars, so a lot of stuff, including air, bugs, and whatever else, is going to be flying at your face at incredibly high speeds, so you need to protect your eyes above all else. And gloves help you get a better grip on your handles, which is a very good thing when you’re going that fast.

Know Your Limits

When riding a motorcycle, the best thing you can do is to stay within your comfort zone. Riding a motorcycle is a delicate art, all about maintaining balance at high speeds on a busy highway. There are a dozen ways to die at any given moment. While motorcycles have become exponentially safer as the years carry on, safety is still a necessity when on the road. If you dream of pulling off complicated stunts, seek training before you do so. Such performances require years of training and trial and error. Remember your limits and keep safe on the road.

Inspection, Inspection, Inspection

Inspect your bike every time you’re about to hit the road. Check the tires for air pressure and potential damage, make sure you have gas in the tank, check your mirrors and lights etc. You also need to be particularly diligent about maintenance and upkeep. If you lack the tools and equipment to fix a problem with your bike, don’t drive it again until after you take it to a shop that does have that equipment. There’s a reason motorcycle owners have a stigma of caring about their bikes like the machines are their children; you need to be very thorough when it comes to keeping your motorcycle running smooth.
