Robin Williams had lots of movies you’d enjoy in your Heart 3D glasses. He died on August 11, 2014 in his home, but this legend will never die in our hearts.
Robin as the Hilarious Genie
There was one movie that all of us in our 20’s and 30’s loved as kids, “Aladdin” (1993). Probably the most memorable character was Genie, who was to grant his pal “Al”, a street rat, with three wishes. Robin switched up character voices so fast as the magical lamp dweller (a joy to watch on screen in 3D Heart glasses) that the animators had a heck of a time keeping up with his creativity. From the time he left the lamp until the moment Aladdin freed him, Robin Williams’ real-life cartoon-like personality left this character imprinted in our minds forever.
The Memorable Mrs. Doubtfire
Mrs. Doubtfire was actually a divorced man named Daniel Hillard (played by Williams) who posed as a housekeeper so that he could see his children. His love for his family touched us all, which makes it another wonderful classic of Robin’s to see in Heart 3D glasses. From the time Daniel tackled a guy while trying to snatch his purse (thinking that he was really an old lady) to the scene when ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ was leaning over the stove and accidentally set her fake rubber breasts on fire, we all jumped for joy when this movie hit theaters in the early nineties.
Robin as a Mentor in Good Will Hunting
If you were a young man in the late nineties working a 9 to 5 trying to find yourself, then you probably went through the same types of things physically, mentally or socially that Will Hunting (played by Matt Damon) did. He got into fights (a fun scene to see in Heart 3D glasses), went to jail, etc. But, he was so intelligent that he’d represent himself in court when he got into trouble – and win! Professor Lambeau (played by Stellan Skarsgard) at M.I.T., the institution where Will scrubbed floors, discovered this young janitor’s mathematical genius, saw how much trouble he was, and tried to get him a therapist. After making many of them quit trying to help him (the kid literally drove the shrinks crazy on purpose!), the professor called on an old friend who used to live in the same neighborhood as Will, Sean Maguire (played by Robin Williams).
Robin may not have realized it at the time, but for so many young men he became our mentor as well as Will’s. As he helped the young man find himself, it was just like he was talking to us, the men around Will’s age who were watching the movie. He made us see our lives in a new light through the character Sean Maguire, and watching it in Heart 3D glasses is fitting since we all still love Robin so much. We miss you, and may you rest peacefully.
