In a Christian organization of any type, including a church, school, or another community outreach office, the senior pastor is a spiritual leader, of course. But this same individual is also an organizer, a manager, and a resource for everyone who works within the structure or depends on it for guidance and advice.

Growth

As a church leader, the senior pastor is primarily responsible not only for growth, but also for the direction in which the church expands. This challenge means that the pastor is always the chief intercessor for church prayers, as well as a leader of prayer. This individual is primarily responsible for shaping the culture of the church and its related organizations. This includes personal vision, use of resources, and members of the staff.

It’s extremely important for the senior pastor to encourage others to become leaders, whether for the organization as a whole or for working groups within the organization. The pastor must have a plan for leadership development, which might include gathering a small group of individuals who are interested in leading in some way.

Leadership

The process includes encouraging those individuals to learn from reading about leadership, using some of the best resources available. As the potential leaders grow, it’s essential for the senior pastor to remain in touch with each individual’s progress, focusing on the specific area that they’re interested in. As a senior leader of the church, the pastor must always emphasize learning and how the people are applying that knowledge.

Of course, the church leader must always be communicating the truth, the Word of God, on a daily basis. Each individual pastor will have his or her own way of communicating, as they do at Word of Life Christian Center, but any messages must always be presented after careful, thoughtful preparation. This is the way that the members of every church and organization will receive a clear vision, one that’s important for them and for the group as a whole. You can follow them on Pinterest.
