All financial institutions need and are required to have bank security guards. After all, they have a lot of Americans’ money inside of their walls, so the banks could be a tempting target for theft without a lot of security. Learn more about bank security guards and what their duties are below.

Who Are These Guards?

Bank security guards in Portland OR are people on the premises of the bank who are there to watch and ensure that no potentially hostile situation occurs. They stay watchful of what is occurring inside and even outside of the bank at all times. Many of them have a background in law enforcement to where they were police officers at one time, so their training can help them to know what signs to watch out for to prevent trouble.

In fact, they try deescalate a potentially hostile situation before it happens. If a bank customer is angry over some transaction, these officers will attempt to calm the person down and prevent the person from becoming hostile.

Requirements

In order to become one of these guards, they must have at least graduated from high school or have a general education diploma (GED). Additionally, these guards must have an attention to detail, be quick in response, and thoroughly observe their surroundings, since they often have to react at a moment’s notice.

Most guards often carry a weapon, which means they need to have a legitimate license to carry one in the state they work in. As a result, they must pass the state’s requirement for carrying that firearm. If the security company or the bank they work for requires additional training on top of that, they must complete that as well.
