Tacoma’s wet and cold winters are hard on a roof. Is it time to repair or replace your roof? Here are some warning signs that you might need new roofing in Tacoma.

1. The Roof is Old.

A typical roof with asphalt shingles can last up to 25 years. But when it hits the 20-year mark, you might want to start paying close attention. The number of layers counts as well. If you have one layer of shingles on a properly ventilated roof, then you can possibly reach the 25-year limit. But if the roof is more than 20 years old, with several layers of shingles, then getting a new roof is possibly in your best interest.

2. The Shingles are Damaged.

Shingles that buckle or curl aren’t in the best shape. And it’s highly likely that these misshaped shingles need replacing. Pay close attention to the side of your home that gets the most direct sunlight. Are the shingles curling? Can you tell the shingles are losing granules? If so, then it’s possibly time for a new roof.

3. Shingles are Missing.

Perhaps heavy winds have taken some shingles off of your roof. In any case, it’s not wise to have a roof with several missing shingles. Among other things, missing shingles can make the roof susceptible to leaks.
