If you are ready to complete your Nova Scotia Drivers License test you want to be completely prepared to complete your test with confidence. Here are a few tips to help you be better prepared.

  • Right Vehicle: Make sure you choose a vehicle you have driven before. In fact if you can use the car in which you have been practising this is perfect.

  • Adjust your Mirrors: Before you go in adjust your mirrors so they are in the perfect position for your test.

  • Seatbelt: Make sure you remember to put on your seatbelt. It is probably second nature to you by now, but you would be surprised how many people forget just because they are nervous about getting their Nova Scotia drivers license.

  • Steering: Make sure you have both hands on the steering wheel at all times. You can choose the 10 and 2 or 9 and 3 position based on which feels comfortable. Make sure you use the proper steering when turning by holding it firmly even when turning. Sliding it between your fingers is not proper technique.

  • Four Way Stops: Do not get distracted and forget who arrived at a four way stop first. Hesitating when it is your turn or worse, proceeding when it is not your turn will be considered an error.

  • Pay Attention: Make sure you are looking at signs in the area and obeying the laws regarding them. This includes specialty areas such as school zones, approaching cross walks and signs for yielding.

  • Drive Steady: Keep your speed steady in accordance with the posted speed and avoid making unnecessary lane changes. If you are changing speed and changing lanes it will appear erratic.

  • Stopping: When stopping at lights and stop signs make sure you can see the tires of the car ahead of you.

  • Right Lane: Stay in the right lane unless otherwise instructed by your test administrator.

  • Follow Instructions: Make sure you are paying attention to the test administrator. They will be providing instructions on where to go and what they want to do next.

Make sure you are watching for dangers such as cars following too close to you, hidden intersections, parking lots where people might pull out impatiently, etc. Remember that this is not a driving course and other drivers are not going to be necessarily following the rules. All of these tips will help you get your Nova Scotia drivers license.
