Families who choose cremation for their loved ones often wonder about what should be done with the cremated remains. Many American families choose to keep their loved ones’s remains in a commemorative container at home or scatter them at a special location; these options are not right for everyone.

If you are considering burying or interring your loved one’s remains, finding a cremation cemetery in Sab Pablo can be as easy as finding a location that allows for the interring of cremated remains. However, that often leaves your family to choose between a mausoleum and a columbarium. Here are a few tips for understanding the difference and making the right decision for your needs:

What is a Mausoleum?

Mausoleums are a popular choice in cemeteries for families who struggle with the idea of their loved one being buried underground. These structures are above ground, sometimes indoors and sometimes outdoors, and contain drawer-like areas for burial. These slots are sealed and capped with a commemorative plaque that gives families a place to return and pay their respects.

What is a Columbarium?

Much like a mausoleum, a columbarium offers a final resting place for your loved one that does not require traditional burial in the ground. While a mausoleum allows the burial of bodies and sometimes cremated remains, columbaria are exclusively designed for cremated remains. The small areas allocated to each burial spot are called niches and are just large enough for the contained remains and perhaps a small trinket or photos.

Some cemeteries with mausoleums also offer columbaria alongside or inside the mausoleum. This may be a separate or adjacent structure or simply a section of the mausoleum itself. Always ask about the available options before choosing a burial location for your loved one, though, as not every cemetery offers a dedicated space for interring cremated remains.
