Chemicals
First, one of the biggest defining factors in a European wax is that it does not use any chemicals. They do not use alcohol or other agents to assist with the process. This means your wax is completely natural. This can be good for those with sensitive or dry skin, which can be irritated by alcohol or other chemical agents.
Heat
A European wax uses very low heat compared to other methods. In most cases, the wax is melted and then heated until it is bubbling. In a European wax, however, the wax is melted but is not heated any further. This means the wax is liquid, but it is not going to burn like others can. These burns can sometimes be severe with other methods because of the high heat. With a European wax the heat is warm, but not hot, so expect it to feel about like warm bath water.
No Strips
Some wax centers and most at home waxing kit use strips. Strips are not used in a European wax. Instead, they use wax specifically designed not to be used with strips. Because of this, the entire process is smoother and less messy.
What makes a European wax will vary from center to center, but in general a European wax follows these basic guidelines. The wax should be warm, but not scalding, no chemical agents should be used, and strips are not an option.
