Furnaces come in all shapes and sizes. The key to any of them is to take proper care of them, including proper maintenance. The same rule applies to heat exchange furnaces.
There is a lot of ground to cover, so here are a few basic things to know. When all is said and done, you will be an expert when it comes to heat exchange furnaces.
What Is a Heat Exchanger?
Before we can really go forward, it helps to know what a heat exchange furnace is. Within every furnace is a heat exchanger. It is critical, and it turns the fuel—gas, generally—into heat. The combustion process is what generates the heat and is a key difference between gas and electric furnaces.
The exchanger is a thin metal shield that stands between the blower and the combustion chamber. When the chamber heats the exchanger, the air gets blown across its surface, which rapidly heats the breathable air. That air then gets sent out through the ductwork and into your home.
Preventing Issues
Keeping your heat exchange furnace working properly is key. There are a few things that you can do to ensure that it remains operational. The first is getting a tune-up done. This will make sure that everything is working properly and that the unit is in good shape. You can also replace old ones (15–20 years) because they will simply stop being effective after a long period of time.
